The University of the Arctic Chair in Arctic Legal Research and Education, along with international partners, successfully hosted the Second Inter-Polar Conference in Kathmandu, Nepal, from September 3-5, 2025. The conference brought together nearly 100 researchers, policy experts, young scholars, and Indigenous voices from the Arctic and the Third Pole Hindu Kush Himalaya.
The conference theme "Cryosphere, People, and Climate Change" aligned with the International Year of Glaciers' Preservation (IYGP) 2025 objectives. Discussions emphasized the urgent need to address rapid glacier loss, rising temperatures, and worsening water insecurity affecting ecosystems and communities worldwide. Indigenous voices played a central role in sharing lived experiences of climate impacts and traditional knowledge for developing global solutions.
