Applications are now open for the 8th Aral Sea Summer School, which will take place from 14 to 22 August 2026. This year, the school will focus on Education for Sustainable Development, modern pedagogical approaches and science communication.
The programme will bring together young researchers, educators and specialists working in the fields of water resources, ecology, climate change, agriculture and education. Participants will take part in interactive lectures and trainings in Almaty, field studies in the Aral Sea region, and group work to develop educational modules and learning materials based on real field experience.
Within the school, the Aral Sea is viewed as a unique “living laboratory”, where participants will explore the environmental, socio-economic and climate-related challenges of the region and learn how to transform scientific data and field observations into accessible educational materials.
Applications are open to:
- young researchers and early-career university educators;
- specialists in water resources, environmental sciences, agriculture, climate change and education;
- representatives of non-governmental organizations, government institutions and development programmes.
Participants are expected to be highly motivated, interested in sustainable development, and ready to apply the knowledge gained in teaching, educational initiatives and engagement with communities. Proficiency in English is required.
